Ingredients

Scale

Ground Beef Mixture

  • 1 pound ground beef (80/20 for optimal flavor)
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce (or tamari for gluten-free)
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  • 3 cloves garlic (minced)
  • 1 teaspoon ginger (minced)
  • 2 green onions (chopped, plus extra for garnish)
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Rice

  • 2 cups cooked rice (jasmine, basmati, or brown rice)

Optional Toppings and Vegetables

  • Sesame seeds
  • Sliced cucumber
  • Kimchi
  • Pickled vegetables
  • Vegetables such as bell peppers, carrots, broccoli, or spinach
  • 1 egg (for frying and garnish)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Rice: Rinse 1 cup of rice under cold water until the water runs clear. Depending on your cooking method, cook the rice as follows: stove method by simmering the rice in 2 cups of water for about 15 minutes; rice cooker by following manufacturer’s instructions; or Instant Pot by cooking on high pressure for 3 minutes with natural release. Once cooked, set aside the fluffy rice for serving.
  2. Cook the Ground Beef: Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat and add the ground beef. Use a spatula to break apart the meat as it cooks, browning it until no longer pink, about 5 to 7 minutes. Drain excess fat if necessary.
  3. Add Flavors: To the browned beef, add the minced garlic and ginger. Cook for an additional 1 to 2 minutes until fragrant. Then stir in soy sauce, sesame oil, and chopped green onions. Season with salt and pepper to taste. Let the mixture simmer for a couple of minutes to allow the flavors to meld.
  4. Assemble the Bowl: Start with a generous scoop of cooked rice at the bottom of a bowl. Top with the seasoned ground beef mixture. Add any optional vegetables such as steamed broccoli, sliced bell peppers, or fresh spinach around or on top of the beef for extra nutrients and color.
  5. Garnish and Serve: Finish your Korean Ground Beef Bowl by sprinkling sesame seeds and additional chopped green onions on top. Add optional toppings like sliced cucumber, kimchi, pickled vegetables, or a fried egg for extra richness. Serve immediately and enjoy!

Notes

  • For gluten-free, use tamari instead of soy sauce.
  • Adjust the seasoning of soy sauce and sesame oil to taste depending on preference.
  • Optional vegetables can be sautéed or steamed before adding for softer texture.
  • Add a fried egg on top for extra protein and richness.
  • Brown rice will increase cooking time for the rice; adjust accordingly.
