For the Filling:
- 1 pound ground beef
- 1 tbsp olive oil
- 1 small onion, finely chopped
- 1 bell pepper, chopped (any color)
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- ½ tsp salt
- ½ tsp black pepper
- 1 tsp Italian seasoning
- ½ tsp paprika
- ¼ cup ketchup
- ¼ cup barbecue sauce
- 1 ½ cups shredded mozzarella cheese
For the Bread:
- 1 tube refrigerated pizza dough
- 1 tbsp butter, melted
- ½ tsp garlic powder
- 1 tbsp chopped parsley (for garnish)
- Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Prepare a baking sheet by lining it with parchment paper or lightly greasing it to prevent sticking.
- Cook the Filling: Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add ground beef and cook, breaking it apart with a spoon, until browned and fully cooked, about 5-7 minutes. Drain excess fat if necessary. Add onion, bell pepper, and garlic to the skillet and cook for 4-5 minutes until the vegetables soften. Stir in salt, black pepper, Italian seasoning, paprika, ketchup, and barbecue sauce; mix well and cook for another 2-3 minutes. Remove from heat and let the filling cool slightly.
- Assemble the Garbage Bread: Roll out pizza dough on a lightly floured surface into a rectangle approximately 12×15 inches. Spread the slightly cooled beef mixture evenly over the dough, leaving a 1-inch border around the edges. Sprinkle shredded mozzarella cheese over the filling. Starting at a long edge, tightly roll the dough into a log. Tuck in the ends and pinch seams to seal. Place seam-side down on the prepared baking sheet.
- Brush with Butter and Bake: In a small bowl, combine melted butter and garlic powder. Brush this mixture over the top of the rolled dough. Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown and cooked through. Allow to cool for 5-10 minutes before slicing.
- Slice and Serve: Slice the bread into 1-inch pieces and serve warm. Garnish with chopped parsley for freshness if desired.
Notes
- You can substitute ground beef with ground turkey or chicken for a leaner option.
- Use any color of bell pepper or add chopped mushrooms for extra veggies.
- Make sure the filling is slightly cooled before spreading on the dough to prevent sogginess.
- Serve with a side of marinara sauce or ranch for dipping.
- Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Reheat before serving.
