Ingredients

Scale

French Toast Base

  • 4 croissants (preferably day old or slightly stale)
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 3 tablespoons melted butter
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • ½ teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • Pinch of salt

For Serving

  • Powdered sugar (optional)
  • Maple syrup (optional)

Instructions

  1. Prepare Croissants: Slice each croissant in half lengthwise to create 8 thinner pieces which will soak and cook evenly.
  2. Make the Custard Mixture: In a shallow dish, whisk together the eggs, milk, melted butter, brown sugar, ground cinnamon, and a pinch of salt until well combined.
  3. Prepare the Air Fryer: Lightly spritz the air fryer basket with oil spray to prevent sticking and ensure even cooking.
  4. Soak Croissants: Dip each croissant piece into the egg mixture for about 30 seconds. Avoid soaking too long to prevent sogginess or disintegration.
  5. Arrange in Air Fryer: Place the dipped croissants in a single layer inside the air fryer basket, leaving space between pieces. Work in batches if necessary depending on air fryer capacity.
  6. Cook: Air fry at 380°F (193°C) for 8 minutes or until the croissants are golden brown and cooked through.
  7. Serve: Remove the croissants, dust with powdered sugar if desired, and drizzle with maple syrup before serving warm.

Notes

  • Using day-old croissants helps them absorb the custard better without becoming overly soggy.
  • If your air fryer is small, cook the croissants in batches for best results.
  • Monitor closely during cooking to avoid burning due to varying air fryer models.
  • You can customize the topping with fresh berries or whipped cream for extra indulgence.
